Our Team

Meet the Team

Real clinicians. Real operators. Real enthusiasm.

Community-based research makes a difference for tomorrow's patients. We care about that — and we think it shows.

Our day-to-day team is led by Dr Daphne Hazell, GP and Clinical Lead, and Rachel Guiney, Lead Administrator. Between them and the wider team, we cover clinical oversight, study coordination, site liaison, finance, compliance, and everything in between. We are a small team with a big network — and we like it that way.

Dr Daphne Hazell

Dr Daphne Hazell

Founder & CEO

Dr Daphne Hazell is a GP, wound care specialist, and the founder and CEO of the Primary Care Research Alliance. She trained at King’s College London and has spent her career working at the intersection of general practice, clinical research, and medical innovation. Daphne founded PCRA because she believed GP practices were an underused and undervalued resource for commercial research — and that connecting motivated practices with companies who needed them was simply good for everyone: practices, manufacturers, and patients alike. She also leads Home Wound Care, sits on the NICE GP Reference Panel, and was appointed an NIHR Primary Care Research Champion in 2026. She has presented research internationally, including at WONCA Europe 2025 in Lisbon, and is a member of the EWMA GP Network.

Steve Gore

Steve Gore

Chief Financial Officer

Steve Gore is Chief Financial Officer of the Primary Care Research Alliance, bringing over three decades of senior financial and commercial leadership to the network. A Chartered Accountant qualified with Deloitte and a Mathematics graduate of the University of Southampton, Steve has spent his career as a CFO and Non-Executive Director across technology, healthcare, and professional services businesses. At PCRA, Steve handles all financial aspects of studies — contracting, payments, financial reporting, and governance — giving both member practices and commercial clients the confidence that every engagement is managed with complete rigour and transparency.

RG

Rachel Guiney

Lead Administrator

Rachel works behind the scenes to support study coordination across the network — tracking progress, managing communications, and making sure nothing slips through the cracks. The kind of person every research team needs and not everyone is lucky enough to have.

RI

Richard

Data Protection & Information Governance

Richard works quietly in the background to ensure that every study conducted through the PCRA network meets the highest standards of data protection and information governance. With GDPR compliance a non-negotiable in clinical research, Richard’s careful oversight gives both practices and clients the confidence that data is handled correctly at every stage. Not the most visible member of the team — but one of the most important.
